Pair Wine With Italian Dishes

Although there are no real rules in pairing wine with Italian dishes, some food and wine naturally complement each other. Whether its an Italian dish with chicken, beef, fish, pork and/or pasta, it's "amore" every time with the perfect glass of wine.

Instructions

1. Pick Pinot Grigio for basic Italian pasta dishes that are prepared in a tomato sauce. The tartness in both the tomatoes and the wine are a simple but enjoyable match.

2. Sink your teeth into some delicious seafood, accompanied by a glass of sauvignon blanc or pinot noir.

3. Combine America's number one white wine, Chardonnay, with an Italian pork, chicken or beef dish. A decent bottle of Chardonnay can be purchased for a reasonable $8 to $15.

4. Beef up your Italian red meat dishes with a glass of Cabernet. Cabernet Sauvignon is not only a popular choice but is quickly becoming the world's most widely planted grape variety.

5. Choose Merlot to go with your favorite Italian chicken dish. Merlot is a medium-bodied, red grape wine, usually flavored with hints of berry, plum and currant.

6. Finish off your fabulous Italian meal with traditional biscotti and a glass of Vin Santo. Vin Santo is a mildly sweet dessert wine with a bold, nutty taste.
