Make Tofu French Fries

Turn this into a healthy meal

French fries might be America's favorite food, but they're also one of the highest in saturated fat. Eliminate all of those drawbacks by adapting to a low fat, healthier version made of tofu!

Instructions

1. Tofu french fries are simple. Start with a one-pound package of extra firm tofu. Open the package and drain all the water which is surrounding the tofu. To get extra water out, you can even pat the tofu square with a cheescloth, designed especially for these purposes.

2. Slice the square of tofu into long, thin strips. You should make approximately 12 to 16 pieces per one-pound package. Make sure the pieces are of even size and thickness so they cook evenly.

3. Arrange the cut pieces on a large baking sheet so none are touching. Using the baster, coat each of the pieces in extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle each with the desired amount of salt and pepper. Flip all the pieces and repeat this step on the other side.

4. Place the baking sheet in the oven at 400 degrees and bake for approximately 12 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove the sheet from the oven, flip the pieces, and replace the sheet into the oven to cook this side for another 12 minutes.

5. Remove the tofu fries from the oven and serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, or something more creative.
