Roast Chestnuts And Put Butter On Them

Roasted chestnuts are a holiday delicacy in many American households.

Chestnuts hold a special place in American cuisine, as they are often used in a variety of holiday dishes. Chestnuts are a relatively healthy snack, as they are high in protein and low in harmful cholesterol. Roasting chestnuts is a simple way of preparing them, and the process fills your home with a rich aroma. The preparation requires patience and precision to peel the shells.

Instructions

1. Rinse all chestnuts under cold water for 15 seconds each to remove any dirt or grime remaining on the shells. Pat them dry with paper towels.

2. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Score each chestnut with 1/4-inch cut with your paring knife.

4. Put all of your chestnuts into a baking pan. Put the baking pan into the oven and set your oven timer for 20 minutes, or until all of the shells on the chestnuts have opened.

5. Take the baking pan out of the oven. Peel away and discard the remaining shells of the chestnuts.

6. Scoop out a small spoonful of butter and smear it on each chestnut directly before eating.
