Food For A Dinosaur Party For Kids

Serve fun food at a dinosaur party for kids.

When planning food for a kids dinosaur party, remember that normal items can be renamed to suit the theme. Pretzels become "dinosaur bones," tater tots are "dino eggs" and the ketchup for dipping is "lava." If you do a big food table, it's also fun to divide it and have one side covered with food for carnivores and the other with food for herbivores. Try out some of these easy dinosaur food ideas that are sure to be a big hit with the children.

Primordial Ooze Punch

Put 1/2 gallon of lime sherbet in a punch bowl and add 1 to 2 liters of light-colored or green, caffeine-free soda to make a thick and yummy punch. Just before serving, add some pop rocks candy for a bubbling effect. It's also fun to sprinkle some candied bones on top of each cup of the punch.

Tyrannasaurus Rex Eggs

Hard boil a dozen eggs and crack their shells all over, but don't remove them. Submerge the eggs overnight in a container of any color of fruit drink. The next day, remove the eggs and then take off the shells. The fruit drink will leave a cool, marbled dinosaur egg effect.

Ice Age Popsicles

Fill some small paper cups with a light-colored fruit juice and add some gummy worms and bugs. Cover each cup with plastic wrap, insert a Popsicle stick in the center and freeze overnight. Remove the cups before serving the kids these frozen treats.

Volcano Cake

It's easy to turn a Bundt cake into a volcano for a perfect dinosaur party centerpiece. Bake one Bundt cake and one 9- or 10-inch square cake. Frost the square cake with chocolate frosting, lay the Bundt cake on top and finish frosting. Buy or make a less thick orange or red icing and pour it around the top of the cake so that it resembles lava flowing from the mouth of a volcano.

Dino Egg Ice Cream

These make-ahead dinosaur ice cream balls will delight the kids. Scoop any flavor of ice cream into balls and roll the balls in colorful sprinkles. Put the covered ball in a cupcake liner and refreeze. At party time, serve with a piece of the volcano cake.
