Make Pesto From Scratch

Make homemade pesto pasta for a simple and delicious meal.

Pesto is a flavorful pasta sauce, traditionally made with fresh basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, salt and olive oil. The sauce originated in the Liguria region of Italy, where the rich soil is used to grow herbs, vegetables and fruits. Traditionally pesto was made by grinding the different ingredients together in a mortar, with a pestle, which is how the pasta sauce acquired its name. Pesto pairs well with shrimp, chicken and roasted vegetable pasta dishes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Place peeled garlic cloves in food processor and process until finely minced.

2. Add pine nuts, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, salt, pepper and basil to food processor. Process until everything is finely chopped and blended.

3. Slowly add olive oil to the mixture, while your food processor is running, until all the ingredients are intergraded.

4. Spoon pesto from the food processor to cooked pasta and serve immediately, or place in plastic storage containers and refrigerate for later use.
