Rice pilaf is a flavorful dish made with brown or white rice, vegetables, seasonings and chicken or vegetable stock. Perfect as a side dish or to eat alone, rice pilaf is a simple dish that adds cultural flair to a main course. Freeze rice pilaf to use as a side for dinner during the week or to eat for lunch. Pair rice pilaf with steamed vegetables and meat, chicken or fish for a pleasing meal.
Instructions
1. Cook the rice pilaf and allow it to cool for 15 minutes. For faster results, place the pan of rice pilaf over a bowl of ice to cool. Placing hot rice pilaf in the freezer after cooking makes the rice mushy.
2. Place the rice pilaf in an airtight 1-liter food container or 1-gallon storage freezer bag using a cooking spoon. Seal the container or bag properly to prevent freezer burn.
3. Set the container with rice pilaf inside the freezer after the pilaf has cooled. Store pilaf in the freezer no more than one week to maintain a fresh flavor.
4. Remove the rice pilaf from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator to thaw overnight if you plan to use it in a meal the next day.
