Sex on the Beach shooters are the epitome of the fruity cocktail. Two official versions of this classic shooter exist. The version in "Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide" contains three different types of alcohol and two different types of fruit juices. The International Bartender Association's recipe calls for two types of alcohol and two fruit juices. You can, of course, create your own version of the Sex on the Beach cocktail by mixing and matching the ingredients.
Mr. Boston's Recipe
This recipe features black raspberry liqueur, melon liqueur, vodka, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. For two shooters, stir 1 oz. each of the alcohols and 2 oz. pineapple juice. Pour the mixture into your glasses and top with cranberry juice.
IBA's Recipe
For the International Bartenders Association (IBA) version of Sex on the Beach, mix two parts each vodka, orange juice and cranberry juice with one part peach schnapps. Shake the ingredients in a shaker.
Cocktail Glasses
Officially, the IBA recommends serving the Sex on the Beach in an ice-filled highball glass. If you want to make the authentic Mr. Boston version, serve your Sex on the Beach in a chilled shot or cordial glass.
Garnishes
Mr. Boston's Sex on the Beach is not garnished with any fruit. The IBA, however, recommends an orange slice. Other fruits, including maraschino cherries, complement the fruity flavor of this shooter.
