Fun Invitation Ideas For Chili Cookoffs

Your invitations can be as simple or creative as you want.

A chili cook-off has an assortment of flavors as people create their own interesting recipes, but the creativity of the event doesn't have to end there. Get the most out of your cook-off by creating interesting and fun invitations to whip your guests into an excited mood before they even arrive.

Chili Pot

Making a chili cook-off invitation shaped like a chili pot sends an immediate message about the invitation. Draw the shape of the pot on a piece of poster board with a slightly aerial view so you can see into the pot. Color the inside of the pot red like chili and make the outside a light tan color with printed words on the front that announce the fact it's an invitation. Cut a spoon shape out of poster board and write the invitation information on it, such as the name of the invited as well as the date and location of the event. Cut along the front lip of the pot with a craft knife, leaving a slit. Slide the spoon into the slit with the handle sticking up. Tape it to the back of the invitation so the guest has to slide it out of the chili pot to read it.

Flame

One of the most recognizable things about chili is the flavor. If you are a fan of spicy chili, make your invitation on a flame-shaped card. Draw a simple flame design with a rounded bottom and pointed flame ends on the top. Draw it on a stiff piece of poster board and make it large enough to hold all of your information. Color in the flame with oranges, yellows and reds to make it clear it is fire. Announce it's an invitation on the front in bold, black letters. Write the invitation on the back.

Prize Ribbon

If the chili cook-off is a competitive event, alluding to a prize in your invitation can whip up excitement among your guests. Design your invitation to look like a blue ribbon. Write the contact information on the back of the ribbon. Add words onto the face of the ribbon that spark the competitive side of your guests and list the prizes.

Food Shapes

With all of the ingredients in chili, it's simple to make a variety of interesting food-shaped invitations if you don't want them all to look the same. Cut some of the invitations into the shape of a tomato and others into chili peppers. Depending on the ingredients you put in your chili, you could also cut your invitations into animal shapes such as pigs or cows. Put the contact information on the back of the card.
