Winebased Vodka Drinks

Citrus wine and vodka punch is a popular party drink.

Vodka, a clear, nearly flavorless spirit made from fermented potatoes or grains, is a common ingredient in a variety of cocktails. While it is less commonly paired with wine, vodka and wine can come together to make a fruity party punch, an icy martini or a retro cocktail.

Citrus Wine and Vodka Punch

This combination has the potential for unlimited variations, depending on the type of vodka, wine, fruits and fruit juices you use. The classic recipe calls for a citrus-flavored punch, although you can change things up by making the cranberry variation. To make the punch, begin by filling your punch bowl with three to four cups of ice. Add one 750 ml bottle of vodka and two bottles of dry white wine. Stir in one gallon of orange juice and one gallon of lemonade. Garnish the top with slices of fresh oranges and lemons.

Cranberry-Orange Wine and Vodka Punch

This version of wine and vodka punch is darker than the citrus punch due to the red wine and the cranberry juice. The combination of cranberry and orange makes this punch suitable for winter holiday parties. To make Cranberry Wine and Vodka Punch, fill your punch bowl with three to four cups of ice. Add one bottle of cranberry-flavored vodka and two bottles of red wine. Stir in one gallon of orange juice and one gallon of cranberry juice. Float slices of fresh orange and frozen cranberries on the top of the punch.

Ice Wine Martini

Ice wine is a sweet dessert wine made from the juice of grapes that have been left on the vine to freeze. The combination of the sweet ice wine and a good-quality vodka makes a simple martini. To make an Ice Wine Martini, gently combine equal parts chilled ice wine and chilled vodka in a cold martini glass. Two ounces of each is a standard measurement for this drink. Garnish with a frozen grape.

Cola de Lagarto

Cola de Lagarto means "tail of the lizard," a reference to the green color that the creme de menthe adds to the drink. To make the Cola de Lagarto, combine 3/4 cup white wine, 1/3 cup vodka, one tablespoon fresh squeezed lime juice and one teaspoon white sugar or one teaspoon simple syrup in a shaker and shake well. Strain the drink into a tall, chilled glass and garnish with a mint sprig.
