Mix A Harvey Wallbanger Cocktail

The Harvey Wallbanger is a refreshing highball (or "long drink") that combines the taste of fruit, vanilla and orange. Its basic recipe is two parts orange juice to one part vodka with a splash of Liquore Galliano, but bartenders distinguish themselves with their own embellishments on the classic formula. Learn the basics; then, customize your recipe with other liqueurs and fruit juices.

Instructions

1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes. Do not use crushed ice.

2. Pour one part vodka to two parts of fresh orange juice directly over ice (2 oz. vodka to 4 oz. orange juice, or 3 oz. vodka to 6 oz. orange juice). Stir.

3. Float 1 tsp. of Liquore Galliano over the top of the drink. Lower the liqueur-filled teaspoon and let it dribble off the spoon and onto the surface of the drink. It should sit in a layer, rather than mix with the vodka and orange juice.

4. Garnish with an orange slice on the rim. Add a maraschino cherry (with stem) to garnish the cocktail.

5. Add two drinking straws. Bartenders serve a Harvey Wallbanger as they would a tropical cocktail because of its creaminess and dessert quality.

6. Customize your Harvey Wallbanger drink. A quick survey of bartenders reveals their embellishments, which include mixing one part pineapple to two parts orange juice, grapefruit versus orange slices, and green cherries.
