Create a sauce to put into a vegetable stir-fry.
The zesty flavor of a stir-fry sauce can turn plain sauteed vegetables and meat into an Asian treat. While stir-fry sauces can vary widely in flavor profiles, anything from mildly sweet to powerfully spicy, the best sauce is one that successfully hints at sweetness, saltiness, spiciness and a little sourness. Take this basic recipe and customize it according to your taste buds or use it as it is to flavor stir-fry and other Asian dishes.
Instructions
1. Measure 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 3 tablespoons of water and place into a small bowl. Mix together thoroughly to form a smooth paste.
2. Add 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 1/2 teaspoons of rice wine vinegar and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. Mix into the cornstarch paste.
3. Add 1 teaspoon of fresh, grated ginger and 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Stir together thoroughly to combine.
4. Add the sauce to the sauteed vegetables in a large wok. Over medium heat, toss the vegetables to coat them with the sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil for several minutes or until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and serve the stir-fry over rice.
