Make Blackberry Cobbler

Make your cobbler with fresh or frozen blackberries.

Blackberry cobbler is an outstanding cobbler made from wonderful wild berries. Whether you pick the blackberries yourself or buy them from a grocery store or a roadside stand, the flavor of these fresh berries is unforgettable. If fresh blackberries are not available, you can use frozen berries -- just be sure you do not let the berries thaw before you make the cobbler or it will turn out soggy. Before you make your blackberry cobbler, wash fresh blackberries thoroughly and place in a bowl.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Add 1 cup of sugar to the berries, stirring to make sure all berries are coated with sugar.

2. Melt 1 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Pour melted butter into a 9-by-14-inch baking dish. Pour your berries and sugar into the melted butter.

3. Mix together 2 cups self-rising flour, 2 cups milk, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg to make the batter. Use a whisk and stir thoroughly until smooth.

4. Pour the batter over the berries and melted butter in the baking dish. Bake for 45 minutes or until cobbler is golden brown and flaky on top. Serve warm.
