Ways To Eat Healthier

With obesity on the rise, healthy eating is an important issue. There are plenty of ways to include healthy foods in your diet that still taste good and tide you over until the next meal. Healthy eating isn't difficult, it just takes a few simple changes and it will improve your quality of life greatly.

Add Whole Grains

Eat breads and pasta made of 100 percent whole grains. Whole grains have much-needed fiber and are healthier than white flour, which has had all of the nutritional value removed from it. Also, try to eat brown rice instead of white rice.

Drink Less Soda

Replace soda with water. A can of soda is usually between 120 to 150 calories with no nutritional value. If you replace it with water you are reducing your caloric intake and helping maintain healthier teeth as well.

Eat a Variety of Fruits and Vegetables

Eat a large variety of fruits and vegetables, of many different colors, to add vitamins, fiber and antioxidants to your diet. If you don't like vegetables, try adding them to soups or stir fry to get used to them.

Instead of something full of sugar, eat fruit for dessert instead.

Eat Moderate Portions

Eat enough to leave the table content. You should never stuff yourself so full you can't walk. Eat just enough that you are no longer hungry.

Eat Lean Protein

Eat lean protein such as chicken, fish or tofu. Avoid fatty red meat, bacon or sausage. Also, don't fry your fish, chicken or tofu--eat it baked or grilled.

Limit Yourself, But Don't Restrict Yourself

Don't cut out all your favorite foods, even if they aren't healthy for you. Eat them in moderation. A small handful of chips a day is fine as long as you don't go over your caloric needs.
