Make Deodorant Using Calamansi

Native to the Philippines, the calamansi is a small citrus fruit that possesses a fresh, zesty aroma and taste reminiscent of tangelos. Like other citrus fruits, the calamansi possesses natural cleansing and fragrance ingredients that lend to the creation of botanical, natural beauty and hygiene products. Knowing make homemade deodorant with calamansi gives you the opportunity to control perspiration and odor under your arms. It also saves you money on commercial deodorants that sometimes contain ingredients that aren't natural.

Instructions

1. Add the stearic acid and carrier oil to one of the mixing bowls. Stearic acid is a hardener that is common in many beauty and hygiene products. It can be purchased in hobby supply stores with the carrier oil.

2. Microwave the bowl for three minutes, or until the stearic acid melts, mixing with the clear oil.

3. Add the vegetable glycerin, kudzu starch and polysorbate 20 to the bowl of hot wax and oil. Immediately stir the mixture with quick motions for a continuous two to five minutes. During this time the mixture will thicken and cloud up into a frothy white foam. This is because the polysorbate 20 has allowed the oil and liquid in the mixture to bind and emulsify.

4. Stir in the calamasa essential oil. This is a concentrated oil of the citrus fruit, so do not use more than 1/2 tsp. for the size of this recipe.

5. Pour the warm, foamy mixture into an empty deodorant applicator, also obtained from a craft and hobby supply store. Leave the cap off of it and sit somewhere where it can't be disturbed for approximately three hours, or until it has fully hardened and settled into a powdery deodorant.
