Make Indian Food


Indian food has become incredibly popular in the US over the last few years. While restaurants that serve it abound, it’s easy to make Indian dishes at home by following just a few simple steps and daring to experiment.


Instructions


1. Buy enough spices to provide different flavor combinations to your dishes. Turmeric, curry and ginger are heavily used in Indian food to provide a tangy, strong flavor to a lot of foods. Other popular spices include cardamom, red chilies powder, carom seeds, cloves and Nutmeg ( Jaiphal ).


2. Focus on vegetables and dried fruits. While some Indian dishes contain meat, most are vegetarian or contain just a very small serving of poultry or beef. Tomatoes, garlic and black raisins are heavily used in Indian food, along with sauces and creamy soups.


3. Fry vegetables and meat before mixing them to the recipe. While this is the preferred method of cooking for most foods, you can also choose to stir-fry or sautée if you want to save some calories.


4. Learn to make curry. There’s no single recipe for curry, as the combination of vegetables and species vary greatly depending on the area, family traditions and even availability of ingredients. You can, however, make your own version of curry by combining mashed potatoes, cornstarch and grated cheese. Simply combine all ingredients and form small balls that can be fried in vegetable oil.








5. Use yogurt to marinate vegetables before cooking them. It adds an especially creamy texture and it helps with the heat of the spices. If you need to provide texture or help the ingredients stick together, you can use non-raising flour or cornstarch.
