Ge Rice Cooker Directions

Uncooked rice is less than half the size of cooked rice.

Rice, which was originally cultivated in China, has been a staple food for thousands of years, according to The University of California Davis website. Documented use of rice dates back to 2500 B.C., and it is still a main ingredient in many dishes today. Although cooking rice to just the right consistency can be difficult, modern appliances such as the GE Rice Cooker reduce the time and effort required to perfectly prepare rice.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Measure the desired amount of rice in the measuring cup included with the rice cooker. One full measuring cup of uncooked rice makes about two cups of cooked rice, according to GE Rice Cooker manual.

2. Poor rice in the inner pot of the rice cooker. Using the included measuring cup, add 1 ½ measuring cups of water for the first cup of rice and add 1 measuring cup full of water for every additional cup of uncooked rice.

3. Wipe the outside of the inner pot with a clean dry towel to make sure no water comes in contact with the hot plate.

4. Place the inner pot in the rice cooker and make sure it is properly aligned with the heating plate. GE recommends turning the pot slightly from left to right until the inner pot is secure in the heating plate.

5. Cover the rice with the provided lid.

Cooking

6. Plug in the rice cooker and press the power button down to turn on the rice cooker. The "cook" light should illuminate indicating the rice is cooking.

7. Let rice stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. According to the GE Rice Cooker Manual, when cooking is finished, the power switch will pop up and the "keep warm" light will illuminate.

8. Remove the lid carefully to allow steam to escape. Always open the lit away from you and do not touch the hot inner pot directly.

Serving

9. Stir the rice using the provided rice ladle or another long-handled utensil. More steam will escape as the rice is agitated.

10. Serve rice as desired.

11. After serving rice, disconnect the plug from the outlet and allow the rice cooker to cool completely before cleaning.
