Decorate Fruitinfused Vinegar Bottles

A variety of paint colors can be used on glass.

Vinegar bottles are decorated by painting a picture of the fruit used in the infusion on the bottle or by using decals. Decals are available at most craft shops and may be found in kitchen supply shops. Only warm water is needed to apply decals. Stickers found in major retail stores can be used also. Acrylic craft paints or paint pens can be used to paint the fruit motif or design even if you're not an artist. Additional details can be added around the decal if you like.

Instructions

1. Make a tracing of the picture you want on the bottle on tracing paper. This can be just the fruit, such as an apple or a bunch of grapes with leaves or stems.

2. Cut out the traced pieces. Place the tracing on the contact paper and cut out matching pieces of the contact paper.

3. Peel the backing from the contact paper pieces and place them on the bottle in the desired positions.

4. Paint a thin outline around the edges of each contact paper piece on the bottle. Use either a small artist brush or paint pens. Allow the paint to dry at least three hours.

5. Peel the contact paper pieces off of the bottle. Fill in the fruit outlines, stems or leaves in the appropriate colors or leave them as outlines. Allow the paint to dry at least six hours or overnight.

6. Spray the painted area with the spray varnish in a short sweeping motion. This keeps the paint from peeling off.

Decorating Bottles with Decals or Stickers

7. Apply the decals by following the instructions that came with the decal. This usually involves wetting with warm water and placing it on the bottle.

8. Smooth out any air bubbles under the decal. Once it is in the correct position, allow it to dry completely for three or four hours and then spray it with a light coat of clear varnish. Use short sweeping strokes when spraying the varnish.

9. Apply self-adhesive stickers on the bottle in the desired positions. Spray a light coat of clear varnish on the decals to keep them from peeling off.
