Parch Peanuts In A Paper Bag In The Microwave

Parch your peanuts in the microwave.

There are a few different ways to parch, or toast, peanuts. The most common method is to stick the peanuts in the oven. The problem with this method is it can be very easy to overcook or burn the peanuts if you're not watching them closely. The second way to parch peanuts is to put them in a pre-heated oven set on broil. Once the peanuts are in the hot oven, the oven is turned off. The problem with this method is that it can take an hour to toast the nuts. If you're worried about burning the peanuts or don't have an hour to parch them, try the paper bag and microwave trick instead.

Instructions

1. Pour 1/2 cup of peanuts into a paper bag. The small lunch paper bags work the best. If you have more than 1/2 cup of peanuts to parch, you'll to parch them in separate bags.

2. Drizzle 1 tsp. of peanut oil or olive over the peanuts in the bag. Shake the bag to distribute the oil through the peanuts. The oil will help the peanuts to toast better and add flavor.

3. Fold the opening of the paper bag over a few times to close the top.

4. Place the paper bag into the microwave. Rest the bag on its side so the peanuts are laying flat and not on top of one another. Cook the peanuts for 1 minute. When time is up, take the peanuts out and shake the bag. Allow the bag to cool for 1 minute.

5. Repeat Step 4 to complete the parching process. Once the peanuts are cooled, shell and sample a peanut to ensure it's toasted and heated through. If not, repeat Step 4 one more time.

6. Allow the peanuts to cool slightly, and shell the nuts. Add a dash of salt to the peanuts to add a bit of flavor.
