Make A Watermelon Cake

Nothing tastes quite as yummy as a homemade cake. Add some flair to a cake by decorating it to look like a watermelon. A watermelon cake is easy to make and decorate whether you are a professional or novice baker. Read on to learn how.

Instructions

1. Purchase a strawberry cake mix, vanilla frosting and chocolate chips. Purchase any ingredients required to make the cake mix.

2. Prepare the cake mix following instructions on the box. Mix in all but 1/4 cup of a 12 ounce package of chocolate chips.

3. Prepare two 9 inch round cake pans with non-stick spray. Pour half of the cake batter into each pan.

4. Bake the cakes according to the cake mix instructions. Test the center of the cake for doneness using a toothpick.

5. Remove cakes from the oven. Turn the cakes out onto a cooling rack. Cool completely.

6. Add several drops of red paste food coloring to one can of frosting. Mix well.

7. Add several drops of green paste food coloring to the second jar of frosting. Mix well.

8. Place one cake round on a serving platter. Spread 1/3 of the red frosting on the cake, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the cake edge.

9. Place the second cake round on top of the frosted bottom. Frost the top of the cake with the remainder of the red frosting.

10. Frost the sides of the cake with the green frosting. Do not mix the green and top frosting at the top edge of the cake.

11. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on the top of the cake to look like seeds.
