Layer Jello & Ice Cream

Ice cream and Jell-O are two summer favorites that had to be put together eventually by some wise person. Turning this fabulous dessert into a rainbow of flavored layers is an even better twist and makes this both a cool and creamy treat to beat the heat. The method is similar to making Jell-O, which is relatively easy. Kids can help with the recipe but make sure an adult handles the boiling water.

Instructions

1. Dissolve one package of Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water. Add in 1 of the slices of the ice cream, or 1/4 of the 1/2 gallon.

2. Pour the mixture into the 9-by-13 pan and put in the refrigerator for a minimum of 15 minutes, and up to 30 minutes until the Jell-O is soft set.

3. Mix the second package of Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water until dissolved. Add another 1/4 of the ice cream until it dissolves. Pour this gently on top of the first layer so you don't disturb the first layer. Return to the refrigerator and set the second layer for 15 to 30 minutes.

4. Prepare the final two boxes of Jell-O and the remaining ice cream in layers as you did the first two until all four layers have been mixed and set. Allow the entire dessert to sit overnight in the refrigerator.
