Decorate Party Platters

Add decorations to make party platters that guests will be excited to try.

Party platters brimming with tasty treats make appealing rendezvous points for hungry guests. Finishing touches, such as edible, colorful garnishes, make party platters even more tempting. Platter decorations make trays appear professional, giving the humblest fare a first-class presentation. Tray decorations don't have to be complicated and can be made ahead of time. Use decorations to showcase a special theme idea, holiday or occasion. Your party platter garnishes should complement the food but not be a choking hazard for guests of any age.

Instructions

1. Pile up boiled shrimp on a doily covered platter. Surround the shrimp with half lemons and piles of blueberries. This will add a lot of color and provide edible garnishes for guests.

2. Cover party platters with cleaned banana leaves, palm fronds or other safe greenery. Use tropical looking fronds for a luau theme or outdoor party.

3. Line sandwich trays with clean, dry greens, such as escarole or red leaf lettuce. Cut avocados into slices and use them to create a tasty border around foods.

4. Poke little sandwiches with decorative flag toothpicks for a Fourth of July party. Use snowflake or Santa picks for Christmas.

5. Place plastic Easter eggs along the edges of a tray of holiday cookies.
