Cooking rice is a straightforward process that requires only a pot and water to accomplish. If you do not stir the mixture while cooking it, however, the fluffy, white rice will turn black and harden on the bottom of the pot. Removing scorched rice from a pot bottom typically requires a more intensive cleaning treatment than standard washing. If you have a black scorched mess on one of your pots, using some household items will remove it with ease.

1. Scrape out as much of the burned rice as possible using a wooden spoon or spatula. Throw the removed rice into the trash can or garbage disposal.

4. Turn off the stove burner and move the pot to another burner that is cool. Allow the pot to sit for 30 minutes until the water inside of it is cool.
5. Move the pot to a sink and scrub the bottom of it with a nylon scrubbing sponge using firm, circular motions.
6. Pour the water out and rinse the pot with clean water. Dry the pot with a clean dish towel before storing it.
