Make Poppy Seed Bread In A Machine

A bread machine is a great way to save time if you want to make homemade bread. While it will still require three hours of baking and preparation, the machine does all the work for you, saving you from mixing, kneading and shaping the bread dough. Poppy seed bread, like most yeast breads, can be made in a machine.

Instructions

1. Remove the baking pan from the bread machine. Be sure that the kneading paddle is in place in the pan.

2. Pour the water, lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar, butter, and salt into the pan. Add the flour and poppy seeds. The ingredients need to be added to the pan in this order to prevent the yeast (added in the next step) from activating too quickly.

3. Sprinkle the yeast over the ingredients in the pan.

4. Place the baking pan into the bread machine and close the lid.

5. Plug the unit in to turn it on. Select the regular or white cycle with a light crust and press Start to begin the mixing and baking.

6. Unplug the machine when the alarm sounds, signaling that the bread has completely baked. This will take between two and a half and three hours, depending on your machine. Remove the pan from the oven and turn it upside down over a cooling rack. Shake the pan slightly if the bread does not fall out immediately.

7. Let the bread cool completely before slicing.
