Make Really Strong Coffee

Partly because of the gourmet coffee craze, more Americans are preferring to drink their coffee the way Europeans do--really strong. If you can't always afford the steep prices at trendy coffee shops, you can make really strong coffee at home. Just be sure to use the freshest coffee beans or ground coffee you can get. Follow these simple steps to make your own gourmet-style strong coffee.

Instructions

1. Change your usual recipe for coffee. Increase the amount of ground coffee by half a scoop for every scoop of coffee you use. If using whole-bean coffee, grind one-quarter cup extra coffee beans for every cup you normally grind.

2. Dilute 2 teaspoons instant espresso powder in 2 tablespoons boiling water. Make two cups of fresh ground Colombian coffee according to the usual recipe in a stove-top or electric percolator or using a drip coffee machine. When coffee is done brewing, stir in diluted espresso coffee mixture.

3. Substitute espresso coffee for any regular blend coffee you normally use. Add 2 tablespoons extra water for every cup of coffee you are brewing. Proceed to make coffee as usual, in either percolator or drip coffee machine.

4. Switch to using either Turkish or Greek coffee in place of your usual blend. Purchase Turkish or Greek coffee in Middle Eastern or Greek specialty foods supermarkets. Buy the special pot used with to make this coffee, known as a briki.
