Instructions

Making Halloween Rice Krispie Treats

1. Melt the marshmallows and butter. You can do this on the stove top on low heat, or you can microwave in a glass bowl in one minute increments. If you plan to make pumpkins, add red and yellow food coloring after removing the mixture from heat. Stir thoroughly to make it orange.

2. Add the Rice Krispies if you are making pumpkins. If you are making black cats, add Cocoa Krispies. Mix thoroughly until the marshmallow mixture is blended with the Krispies.

3. For pumpkins you can mold the mixture into pumpkin shapes and insert the Popsicle sticks. Wrap them in wax paper to cool for a half hour. After a half hour, holding it by the stick, insert a half of a Tootsie Roll into the other side for the stalk of the pumpkin. If you want to cut out pumpkin shapes with a cookie cutter, spread the mixture about one inch thick on wax paper. Allow to cool for a half hour and then cut out the shapes with the cookie cutter. You can make other Halloween shapes with cookie cutters as well. For the black cats, mold into round shapes and place on wax paper to cool.

4. To finish the pumpkins on sticks, make a face with the black decorating gel. After the cut out pumpkin shapes have cooled you can spread orange decorating icing on them, then make a face with the black gel. Allow them to cool completely.

5. After the black cats have cooled slightly, stick candy corn in the top for ears. Use white icing and black decorating gel to make the eyes. Add a small mound of white decorating icing for the base of the nose, then cut pieces of the black shoestring licorice to make whiskers. Press the whiskers into the white icing. Allow them to dry.
