Make Your Own Flavored Peanut Butter

Peanut butter can be used to make cookies, sandwiches, milk shakes and more.

Peanut butter is a high-protein spread that can be used in sandwiches, on toast or added to entrees for a sweet, peanut flavor. Peanut butter can be bought at the store or made at home with a high-powered blender or food processor. By making your own peanut butter, you can control the smooth or crunchy texture and even add flavors to create different styles of peanut butter. Flavors can be sweet or savory depending on your personal preference.

Instructions

1. Pour 2 cups of peanuts into the blender or food processor. Chop for approximately two to three minutes. The mixture should be finely chopped and beginning to clump.

2. Scrape the sides of the blender with a spatula to push down the peanuts that did not get chopped. Blend the peanuts again until you get the desired consistency.

3. Move the peanut mixture to a separate bowl, and add the oil. Pick Your Own prefers peanut oil, but sunflower, safflower, canola and corn oil all are options. Mix in the oil with a fork.

4. Add a pinch of salt and your preferred flavor. For sweet flavors, try honey, brown sugar, white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate or maple syrup. Cinnamon with a touch of chili peper will make a more savory peanut butter. Other savory options include curry, onion, parsley, ginger and red pepper. Mix thoroughly with a fork or spatula.
