Make A Cowboy Boot Cake

It is party time, and a cowboy boot cake seems like the best party accessory. Whether it is for a western theme for your child's birthday party, to celebrate watching the rodeo, or to bring to a potluck of western-loving friends, making a cowboy boot cake is an easy way to impress your friends and feed everyone a special treat. For best results, use your favorite cowboy boot as a model for the decoration on your masterpiece.

Instructions

1. Bake your cake as the recipe or boxed mix directs. Allow the cake to cool completely.

2. Run a knife along the edges of the cake pan and turn your cake upside down on a large cutting board. Use a food-coloring pen to draw a cowboy boot or print a cowboy boot shape on paper and cut it out as a template. Cut the shape out on the cake with a knife and discard the rest (or save for treats or bread pudding).

3. Carefully transfer the boot to a heavy piece of cardboard covered with tin foil. If the cake breaks, just "glue" it back together with frosting.

4. Use your favorite cowboy boot (or a picture of one) as a guide for your decoration. Frost the cake with the primary color of the boot, and then use your pastry bag to pipe in details like stitching or decoration. You could also use candies or marzipan for decoration.
