South African Delicacy Foods

African boerewors are hand-made sausages cooked on an open grill.

Every place you go in the world has its own unique cuisine and South Africa is no exception. The food in South Africa bears a mix of influences from the native culture and invading influence of the Dutch. French and German influences also pop up in many dishes because of the large immigration of these two cultures.

Boerewors

South African boerewors can be cooked over an open flame.

Boerewors are a type of handmade sausage. They are made from minced meat. Typically, the meat is either pork, lamb or a combination of the two. Potjiekos

Potjiekos, or pot food, is a stew that is prepared outdoors in a cast iron pot. The dish contains meat, vegetables and a starch such as potatoes or rice. Fruit or pasta may also be included. It is flavored with traditional Dutch seasonings. Alcohol is also added for flavor --- beer, brown sherry or wine are the most popular choices.
