Make "Hot Vodka" For Bloody Marys

The Bloody Mary is a classic cocktail that many people enjoy for brunch or during happy hour. Typically, "Mary's" are made with tomato juice, vodka, Tabasco sauce and perhaps other ingredients such as Worcestershire sauce and lime juice. But you can skip the hot sauce if you make a simple tincture with vodka and hot chile peppers, and you can make it as hot or as mild as you like it!

Instructions

1. Choose fresh hot peppers if you can find them. If they're not available, you can use dried peppers, but the hot vodka might take a little longer to become hot with dried peppers. You can use the small Thai peppers, jalapeno, serrano or other types available.

2. Depending on the "hotness" you want, place one to four peppers in a one-pint glass container with a lid.

3. Fill your container with vodka and cap tightly.

4. Allow your vodka-pepper brew to sit in a place that does not get direct sun for at least two days.

5. After two days, taste-test your blend to see if it has the spiciness you want. You can leave the peppers in the liquid and it will continue to become hotter the longer you let it sit.

6. To make your cocktail, pour off one ounce of the hot vodka for each drink. Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a squirt of lime juice, and then fill the glass with ice, tomato juice or vegetable cocktail. Enjoy!
