Make A Decorative Oil Bottle

You can make your own decorative oil bottle out of an empty wine bottle to have your oil handy when you're cooking and to personalize your kitchen design. You can make your own custom designs for olive oil, vegetable oil and other oils. You can chose the portions of your design to be painted and the portions that will be beaded to add texture and sparkle. Make as many as you need for free or for minimal cost.

Instructions

Make a Decorative Oil Bottle

1. Sterilize the bottle by submerging it in a large water-filled pot. Make sure no air is trapped in the bottle. Bring the water to a boil and boil the bottle for 15 minutes.

2. Use rubber-tipped tongs to remove the bottle from the water and place it on a clean, dry surface to air dry.

3. Use glass paints to paint the painted areas of your design onto the bottle. Use a small brush and a steady hand. If you make a mistake or don't like the result, you can use a Q-tip dipped in a small amount of rubbing alcohol to remove the paint.

4. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours.

5. Following the paint manufacturer's directions, bake the paint onto the surface of your bottle. Carefully remove it from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature.

6. Apply double sided tape to the areas of your design that are to be beaded.

7. Place your beads in a shallow pan or cookie sheet that is large enough to fit your bottle into.

8. Remove the top tape liners of the double faced tape from the first beaded section on the bottle and roll the bottle in the beads.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all of the beads have been applied to the bottle.

10. Paint a light coat of food safe dimensional glaze over the decorated bottle and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.

11. Fill the bottle with oil and place a wine bottle spout on it to use it as you would any oil bottle.
