The Main Ingredient In French Dressing That Gives It Color

French dressing comes in many combinations of flavors and colors.

French dressing is also known as vinaigrette which means "little vinegar" in French. It is generally used on salads or appetizers. French dressing is made with a base of simple ingredients to which other ingredients can be added to make it more flavorful. Additions can include mustard, wine (red or white) or chili.

Basic French Dressing

Basic French Dressing is made from olive oil, wine vinegar, salt, pepper and sugar.

Color of French Dressing

The main ingredient in basic French dressing is olive oil, this will gives it its color. Depending on the type of olive oil used the color will vary, if, for instance; extra virgin olive oil is used the color will be a darker richer yellow.

Variations

The color of the dressing will change if other more colorful ingredients are added. If honey is added, depending again on the type of honey, the color will become a richer yellow or brown. If mustard is added, such as wholegrain or french mustard the color will change again to a more beige, creamy shade.
