Put A Glass Lid To Corningware In An Oven

Your CorningWare cookware is compatible with gas and electric ovens.

CorningWare cookware and its glass lids are safe to put in your oven, but you need to preheat the oven. Do not put the glass or cookware in a cold oven and then turn on the appliance. This can cause the cookware and glass to break because of the sudden temperature change. It is also safe to use your CorningWare cookware in a microwave oven.

Preheating

Preheat your oven to the temperature you want the appliance or the temperature noted in the cookbook or recipe you are using. Preheating times vary by oven. Add water to the bottom of your CorningWare cookware to keep the dish from burning, if water is not already in the dish. Place the glass lid on the piece of CorningWare cookware, and place the dish in the oven after the appliance is hot.

Cautions

Use dry potholders, oven mitts or a thick towel to remove your CorningWare dish from the hot oven. The covered cookware is hot and will burn you. Using a wet potholder, mitt or towel can cause the glass and dish to shatter. Do not use CorningWare cookware on a stove top, grill, in a toaster oven or under your oven's broiler. These actions will cause the cookware and its lid to shatter.

Cooling

Let your CorningWare cookware and glass lid cool on a potholder, trivet, dry cloth or a cooling rack before moving the dish to a table or other surface. Do not place the hot cookware directly on a countertop, in a sink or metal surface -- the hot cookware can break and the glass can shatter. Also, let the cookware and its lid cool before placing the items in a refrigerator or freezer.

Glass Breakage

Do not drop, bump or kick your CorningWare cookware's glass lids. This will cause the glass to break and possibly cut you. Handle the glass with care. The glass breaks easily and can shatter with sudden temperature changes without warning. Do not add liquid to a hot dish, and do not submerge a hot dish or glass lid into any liquid.

Glass Lid Care

Allow the cookware and glass lid to cool before cleaning the items in water. Use a nonabrasive cleaner to remove debris from your CorningWare cookware and its glass lids. Use a plastic or nylon cleaning pad or sponge to remove any caked-on debris. Using a harsh cleaner or cleaning tool can scratch and damage your CorningWare cookware. Dry the cookware and its lids thoroughly with a clean towel before storing.
