American Standard Kitchen Faucet Installation

American Standard offers kitchen faucets in many styles, sizes and finishes, so you not only can repair your faucet, you can change the appearance of your kitchen sink. While kitchen sinks come with one to three holes, you can purchase a single-hole faucet as long as it has a deck plate adapter. Many new faucet models have the sprayer component that pulls out of the faucet head rather than as a side mount in a separate hole.

Instructions

1. Turn off water at the water supply lines under the sink. If your house doesn't have shut-off valves, turn off water to the entire house at the main shutoff near the water heater or in the basement. Turn on the old faucet to drain the water line.

2. Unscrew the nuts holding the faucet in place, using the basin wrench. Remove the fasteners on the sprayer with the basin wrench also.

3. Pull the old faucet away from the top of the sink. Scrub off any material that remains on top of the sink.

4. Align the deck plate, if applicable, over the holes on the sink.

5. Run the factory-attached water supply hoses on the faucet through the hole in the deck plate. From underneath the sink, slide the mounting gasket over the supply hoses and push it against the bottom of the faucet opening. Push the brass washer on the supply hoses and thread the mounting nut onto the hoses. Work the gasket, washer and nut up to the threads of the faucet protruding under the sink. Hand-tighten the mounting nut. Check the position of the faucet from above; it should remain centered over the holes. Tighten the three screws that surround the mounting nut against the bottom of the sink, using the screwdriver.

6. Attach the hot water supply line to the hot water connection for the faucet. Do the same for the cold water. Tighten these connections by hand, then add a quarter turn with the adjustable wrench.

7. Turn the water back on to the sink. Check for leaks and that the faucet is working properly. Tighten the connections a bit more if you detect any leaks.

Tips Warnings

If your American Standard faucet has a sprayer or other attachment, run the sprayer hose connector through the hole on the sink's top. Tighten the nut that holds the sprayer attachment in place from under the sink. Thread the sprayer's tubing through the hole. Connect the sprayer's tubing to the diverter tube on the faucet, using the wrench.
