Kitchen faucet sprayers make it convenient to wash dishes, clean the sink, and fill pots and pans, but when this malfunctions, it can make these tasks difficult. If the sprayer begins to stick or does not work at all, it may need replacing. It is possible to replace a kitchen sink sprayer with a few basic tools to get it working again so you can complete your housework.
Instructions
1. Purchase a new kitchen sprayer kit from the local hardware store. Make sure it is the same brand as your old one and is compatible with the sink. The kits include a hose, sprayer head and a coupling used to connect the hose to the current faucet.
2. Turn off the water supply with the shutoff valves beneath the sink. If there are no valves located under the sink, turn off the water to the main water supply in the home. This is usually located in the basement near the water heater. Open the faucet handle to empty any water remaining in the lines.
3. Find where the sprayer hose attaches to the faucet beneath the sink. Loosen the connection on the sprayer hose with a wrench or pliers. If there is any water in the hose, empty it into a bucket.
4. Locate the mounting nut below the sprayer nozzle. Remove the nut with a wrench. Pull out the sprayer hose and head through the top of the sink.
5. Insert the hose of your new sprayer in the mounting hole on the sink. Pull the new hose down with your hand from underneath the sink until the sprayer head sits firmly in the mounting opening. Secure the end of the hose to the shank tee and tighten with a wrench. Restore the water supply and test the new sprayer.
