If a string breaks on your blind, restring it instead of replacing it.
Venetian blinds utilize two strings secured to a cam-driven locking mechanism in the head rail to work the up and down motion. Over time, the string can weaken and eventually break. Many people throw the blinds away, but you can spend a couple of dollars on new string and repair the blind. This will save you money
Instructions
1. Remove your blind from the window, using a screwdriver, and place it on a clean table. Stack each slat against the head rail of the blind. Place the bottom rail against the last slat.
2. Cut two pieces of string twice the length of the blind, using scissors. For example, if your blinds extend 70 inches, cut two pieces of string 140 inches long.
3. Thread one of the strings through the holes on the left side of the bottom rail and slats and then up through the head rail. Thread the other string through the bottom rail and right side of the slats and then up through the hole in the head rail. Leave 5 inches of each string protruding from the bottom of the bottom rail.
4. Loop the string around the bottom rail and tie a knot. Do this with both strings.
5. Extend the string protruding from the left side of the blind over to the locking mechanism on the right side of the blind. Lift up on the upper brass cam and slide the string between the lower and upper cams. Thread the string through the hole located beside the cam.
6. Extend the string protruding from the right side of the blind over to the locking mechanism on the left side of the blind. Slip the string between the lower and upper brass cams and then stretch the string back across the blind and down into the same hole you placed the first string.
7. Mount the blind back into the window.
8. Grab one string with your left hand and and one string with your right hand. Pull on both strings until you lift the blind. If the blind does not pull up straight, pull on one string until it does. With the blind straight, cut the strings to equal length.
9. Slide the weight and the valance onto both strings and then tight the ends of the strings into a not. Slide the valance down over the knot.
