Remove Factory Camaro Seat Covers

Remove your Camaro's seat covers easily.


The seats on a Chevrolet Camaro are comprised of three parts: a wire frame, foam cushions and seat covers. The factory seat covers are usually made of vinyl or cloth, and in rare cases, leather. You will want to remove your seat covers if they are torn, faded or otherwise damaged. You will also need to remove the covers to replace the foam underneath.


Instructions


Removing the Front Seats


1. Unscrew the screw that secures the seat belt guide to the top of the seat, using a Phillips screwdriver.


2. Slide the seat to the full forward position.


3. Unscrew the two bolts that secure the rear ends of the seat brackets to the floor, using a ratchet and socket.


4. Slide the seat to the full rearward position.


5. Unscrew the two bolts that secure the front ends of the seat brackets to the floor, using a ratchet and socket.


6. Lift the seats out of the vehicle.


Removing the Rear Seats


7. Push in on the bottom of the rear lower seat, while pulling upward to disengage it from the retaining bracket on the floor, then lift the rear lower seat out of the vehicle.


8. Unscrew the two screws that secure the upper seat to the vehicle, using a socket and ratchet. The screws will be located along the bottom of the upper seat.


9. Lift the upper seat upwards to disengage the retaining hooks, then pull it from the vehicle.


Removing the Seat Covers


10. Open the zipper on the seat backs on the front seats, by sliding it upwards. Then carefully slide the cover material off the foam cushions.


11. Flip the front seats over.


12. Pull off the hog rings that secure the cover material to the seat frame, by spreading them open with a needle nose pliers.


13. Slide the material off the lower foam cushions on the front seats.


14. Pry off the staples that secure the cover material to the upper and lower rear seat frames, using a flat blade screwdriver.


15. Slide the cover material off the foam cushions.


Tips Warnings


While you a reconditioning the seats, be sure to examine the condition of the seat belts. Replace the belts if the material is frayed or if the retracting mechanism does not fully tighten.


Do not cut the material with a scissors or razor blade. You can damage the foam underneath.
