Troubleshoot A Wayne Dalton Garage Door Opener

Wayne-Dalton garage door openers are simple to install and are designed for years of reliable use. They can be operated from a wall switch or remotely controlled by a transmitter in your vehicle. While problems with Wayne-Dalton garage door openers are few, they do occur occasionally. These steps may help you to troubleshoot your system before you need to have it serviced.


Instructions


Garage Door Won't Open From Wall Switch


1. Ensure there is power to the opener unit. Check the outlet for power and replace the fuse or reset the tripped circuit breaker, if necessary.


2. Check the wiring between the opener unit and the wall station for short circuits or disconnected wiring and make any necessary repairs.


3. Allow the opener to cool for around 20 minutes to reset the motor protector, if the unit has been used frequently.


Radio Control Fails to Open Door


4. Check the batteries in the radio control transmitter and replace the batteries, if necessary.


5. Reset the security code to match the opener unit by pressing the the program button on the opener. While the red program indicator is lit, press the large button on the transmitter. Wait for the indicator light to flash three times. Press the large button again to confirm.


6. Have the motor control board tested by an authorized service representative if more than one radio control transmitter will not activate the opener.


Door Fails to Open And Light on Opener Flashes


7. Check the door for obstructions by disconnecting the door from the opener and operating the door manually. Remove any obstructions so the door works properly and reconnect the opener. Test the opener for proper operation.


8. Ensure the the opening force is properly set. If it is not, adjust it accordingly.


9. Check to see if ice or snow has built up around the door. Remove the obstruction.


Door Closes, Then Returns to Open Position Automatically And Light on Opener Flashes


10. Examine the door arm to see if it is properly adjusted. Readjust the arm, if necessary.


11. Check the close travel adjustment to see if it is correctly set. Readjust the close travel with a screwdriver by turning the adjustment screw counter-clockwise 1/4 turn for every inch of excess travel.


12. Check for rocks, ice or other obstructions that may prevent the door from closing completely and remove them.


Door Reverses Direction While Closing And Light on Opener Flashes


13. Check for anything that may be triggering the obstruction sensing system and remove the obstruction, if needed.


14. Check for anything that may be triggering the infrared safety system and remove the item.


15. Check the closing force for proper adjustment and correct the adjustment, if necessary.


Other Problems


16. Check to see if the infrared safety sensor is out of adjustment, being blocked or defective. Adjust or clear the sensor and test it for proper function. Replace the sensor, if needed.


17.Check the open limit setting, if the door opens and the light on the opener flashes or the door fails to open fully. Readjust the open travel with a screwdriver by turning the adjustment screw counter-clockwise 1/4 turn for every inch of excess travel.


18. Check that the close limit is properly set, if the door stops before closing fully. Readjust the close travel with a screwdriver by turning the adjustment screw clockwise 1/4 turn for every inch of excess travel.
