The Kohler Fairfax faucet is a single-control model with one handle that operates both the hot and cold water supply. If this faucet has problems dispensing water at the right temperature or it leaks, follow certain troubleshooting steps to fix the problem. Generally, a leak or water-temperature problem can be fixed by replacing the cartridge and adjusting the faucet's limit stop, which is the part that allows the faucet to dispense hotter water.
Instructions
Water-Temperature Problem
1. Lift off the cap on top of the faucet's handle with the edge of a flat head screwdriver. Unscrew the screw under the cap with an Allen wrench. Slide the handle off the faucet.
2. Unscrew the bonnet, which is the rounded nut under the handle, and remove it. Turn the knob on the limit stop -- the part on top of the faucet cartridge -- to increase or decrease the handle if the temperature needs adjusting.
3. Lift the handle and test the water temperature. Adjust the dial until the temperature feels correct, and replace the bonnet and handle. Alternatively, use a thermometer to check the temperature and set it to your optimal temperature.
Leaks
4. Turn off the water pipe valves under the sink.
5. Lift off the cap on top of the faucet's handle with the edge of a flat head screwdriver. Unscrew the screw under the cap with an Allen wrench. Slide the handle off the faucet.
6. Unscrew the bonnet, which is the rounded nut under the handle, and remove it. Remove the retaining nut with a wrench, and take the cartridge out of the faucet.
7. Place a new cartridge into the faucet. Replace the retaining nut, bonnet and handle. Turn the water on, and check the faucet for leaks. If leaks occur, remove the cartridge again, re-install it, and tighten the retaining nut until the leak stops.
