Cafe curtains are a practical curtain choice for your bus windows.
The best style of curtains for a bus is the functional and easy to sew Caf#xE9; style curtain. Essentially, Caf#xE9; curtains are simple rectangles attached over the curtain rod with clip-on Caf#xE9; curtain rings. Quick Caf#xE9; curtains can even be made from dishtowels for a no-sew approach; but if you wish to use a particular fabric to match the interior of your bus, an afternoon and a sewing machine can yield custom bus curtains that will be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Instructions
1. Measure, with the tape measure, the length of the bus window. Add 2-inches to this measurement. This will be the curtain length. Measure the width of the bus window and multiply this measurement by two. This will be the curtain width. Write your measurements on a notepad for easy reference.
2. Cut the fabric with your scissors.
Cut the fabric, with the scissors, according to the curtain length and curtain width measurements as determined in Step 1.
3. Fold all four edges of the rectangle over against the wrong side of the fabric #xBD;-inch. Fold the four edges over #xBD;-inch one more time so that no raw edges of the fabric are exposed, forming a hem. Pin the folded edges with straight pins.
4. Use a zig-zag stitch to sew the curtain hems.
Lift the pressure foot of your sewing machine, and insert the pinned edge of the fabric. Start in a corner. Using a zig-zag stitch, sew along the edges, forming a sewn hem along all four sides of the fabric rectangle. Remove the pins as you sew. This is your Caf#xE9; curtain panel. For a fuller effect, you can use two panels per bus window; otherwise one panel per window will suffice.
5. Clip on a Caf#xE9; curtain ring every two-inches along one width side (the longest side). Caf#xE9; curtain rings are made of brass and various other metals and are pinched near the ring, forcing two prongs open. These prongs grip the top of the curtain fabric.
6. Space Cafe curtain rings two inches apart.
Slip the curtain rod through the Caf#xE9; curtain rings and install above your bus window. Most curtain rods will work, but a Caf#xE9; curtain rod will be the most satisfactory. Because Caf#xE9; curtain rings are roomy, they fit over multiple sizes of rods, and move back and forth for ease of opening and closing without minimal effort. Caf#xE9; curtain rings are available for purchase at most discount stores in the home department, as well as at home improvement centers and interior design stores. Decorative Caf#xE9; curtain rings are available, but the simple circular rings are the most cost effective.
Tips Warnings
For quick, no-sew, Caf#xE9; curtains, turn pre-purchased dishtowels horizontally and clip Caf#xE9; curtain rings every 2-inches along the top hem of the dishtowel and hang as you would sewn Caf#xE9; curtains. This is a fast way to give your bus a seasonal d#xE9;cor, as you can change out the curtains (dishtowels) with minimal effort by unclipping and clipping the Caf#xE9; curtain rings to the new dishtowels.
