I have a Majestic fireplace that is not wanting to work this year. The pilot light will stay lit for only a short time, and then goes out. Also, while the pilot light is lit, I there is no flame getting to the logs for heat. I have been told that the burner orafice may be the problem. Any help is appreciated.
The model I have is 36BDVR (obtained in 2001).
Sounds more like a defective thermocouple. The little sensor that is in the pilot light flame. Make sure it is in the flame, mine moves in and out and I have to adjust it every year.
There could be many causes for your problem......some are easy fixes, some not so easy. It would be best if you called a professional.
Fox E, thermocouples are not suppose to be adjustable. They are set from the factory and, if they must be adjusted, they are not operating properly and the fireplace should not be used.
Thanks for the advice both of you provided.
It turned out to be a simple fix. The burner orifice was clogged with carbon, dust, or other debris. I took a toothbrush to it and cleaned it out. It works like a champ now.
Now onto the next project.
A little PM goes along ways..glad it's fixed.
Rob, on an old wall furnace I have, the round thermocouple sits in a round clamp like thingie and it wonders out of position from time to time. Used to have to kick it once in the while
FoxE, that is right down scary !!!! The thermocouple is part of the pilot safety shut-off system that is NOT adjustable. If you have an issue that requires a kick, it would be a good idea to have it looked at by someone that is properly trained.
