Replace My Moen Kitchen Faucet
When replacing your kitchen faucet, you will need to know how many holes your kitchen sink has for the faucet. Many Moen single handle faucets have a base that covers the standard three holes in many kitchen sinks. But you do not want to have to cut extra holes by purchasing a two handle Moen and finding out when you disassemble the old faucet that you truly only have one hole in the sink. The quickest way to find out is to look under the sink where the water lines connect to the faucet. Once you have a new Moen faucet, replacing the old one will take about an hour.
Instructions
1. Turn off the water supply valves under the sink. Turn on the hot and cold water at the faucet to allow any remaining water in the line to drain. Move all the contents under the sink cabinet out of your way so that you will have plenty of room to work.
2. Disconnect the water supply lines from the faucet using a wrench. Single handle faucets have the water lines connecting toward the center under the faucet. The water line connections on two handle faucets are directly under each faucet handle. If you have a sprayer on your kitchen sink, disconnect the sprayer hose from the faucet under the area of the spout.
3. Remove the retaining nuts that secure the faucet to the sink with a pair of channel lock pliers. You will have up to three retaining nuts depending upon the number of faucet handles you have. Also remove the retaining nut securing the sprayer base to the kitchen sink.
4. Pull the old faucet off the kitchen sink. Clean the area around the sink holes with a soft, clean cloth. If you have a sprayer, lift the handle and the sprayer base out of the kitchen sink.
5. Assemble the Moen faucet according to the instructions that come with your new faucet. Moen makes a wide variety of models, and each one has individual ways of assembling. Most Moen faucets assemble before inserting them into the kitchen sink.
6. Insert the new Moen sink faucet into the holes on the kitchen sink. If you are replacing a two handle faucet with a single handle faucet, ensure that the decorative base covers the two holes that you will not be using. It is a good idea to line the sink faucet, and ask a helper to hold the faucet in place until you secure it to the sink.
7. Go under the sink, and place any washer around threads as necessary, and secure the faucet to the sink with the supplied retaining nuts. Tighten the nuts one full turn with a pair of channel lock pliers.
8. Ask your helper to place the sprayer base around the sprayer hose, and insert the hose through the sink and position the sprayer base flush against the sink. Secure the sprayer base with the supplied retaining nut.
9. Connect the sprayer hose to your new kitchen faucet according to the instruction sheet that comes with the faucet. Wrap plumber's tape around the exposed threads, and thread the hose until it is hand tight. Tighten the hose connection completely with a wrench.
10. Wrap the threads on the faucet where the water supply lines will connect. Thread the water supply line connections to the faucet until they are hand tight. Turn the connection another #190;-turn with a wrench.
11. Turn on the water supply valves, and check your connections for leaks. Tighten any connections as necessary.
