Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College is located in Asheville, North Carolina. A-B Tech offers a 146-hour level one nurse assistant program that comprises 90 hours of classroom learning and 56 hours of clinical, hands-on learning. There are day (6 weeks long) and evening (4.5 months long) classes available. In order to qualify for the program, you must be able to read at a 9th-grade level. The program also requires students to have a government-issued ID, a Social Security card and have negative results on a tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Surry Community College
Surry Community College is located in Dobson, North Carolina. The nursing assistant training program at Surry is offered in two levels. Level one (which is 176 hours long) includes courses in nutrition, patients' rights, infection control, CPR and death and dying, while the level two program (192 hours) includes courses in wound care, IV fluids, oxygen therapy and urinary catheterization. Students interested in the level one program must pass a reading proficiency test, while those interested in the level two program must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as have completed the CNA level one portion.

Wake Tech Community College
Wake Tech Community College is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Wake Tech's nursing assistant class introduces students to basic nursing skills, from taking vital signs to patients' rights. To gain acceptance into the program, you must be CPR-certified, have two signed IDs (one must be a Social Security card) and complete a criminal background check. Day and evening classes are available. Upon completion of the nursing assistant program at Wake Tech, students may sit for the state nursing assistant exam to become certified.
