Engagement Hairstyles

A headband that suits your personality works well as an engagement hairstyle.

Since the majority of wedding-related event planning involves the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception, it is easy to gloss over the significance of the marriage engagement itself. Many couples send out engagement announcements which include special engagement photos. These photos are usually less formal than official wedding photos, as they feature the couple in casual clothing and in casual settings such as a park or backyard. Hairstyles for engagement photos therefore should be less casual than formal wedding hairstyles.

Ponytail

Wear your hair back in a ponytail to achieve a sporty and fresh-faced look. With your hair pulled back and out of your face, the photographer can focus entirely on your facial expressions and bring out the attractive features on your face. A ponytail is a very casual hairstyle, but engagement photos should showcase the couple in as natural a manner as possible. So, if you commonly wear your hair in a ponytail do not be afraid to do the same for your engagement photos. To add a touch of formality to the ponytail, cover the hairband with a loop of hair to create a more seamless look.

Straightened or Wavy

Wear your hair down to create an easy, natural look. Wearing your hair down will also allow the wind to blow it slightly which can add to the natural beauty of the scene. Straighten your hair if you prefer it to look simple and sleek. Or, if you wish to create more a playful, laid-back look, create loose waves with a curly iron or by braiding it overnight. When wearing your hair down, it is important to keep it out of your face for photographs. Perhaps ask your fiance to guide it away from your face, creating a romantic photo opportunity.

Braids

Incorporate braids into your hair for a childlike or Bohemian look. Two braided pigtails work well in creating an innocent, somewhat tomboy look. For a more Bohemian hairstyle, add a small braid across the front of your hairline or create two small side braids that loop around the head like a daisy chain. Braids are an excellent way of achieving what looks like a complicated or professional hairstyle by using a fairly easy skill that most amateurs can do themselves.

Headband and Hair Accessories

Add headbands and other hair accessories to your hairstyle to create a more colorful look that suits your personality. For example, if you love animal prints, wear a leopard print headband or if you define yourself as quite earthy wear flowers or braided grass in your hair. Correlate your hair accessories with the engagement photo setting. For example, if the engagement photos are taken on a beach, wearing a tropical flower in your hair would be appropriate.
