Decorate A Hula Hoop

Decorate hula hoops for any occasion.

Most hula hoops are sold in plain, solid colors, so they're a clean canvas to add creativity to. Decorate hula hoops as a birthday party activity, as a rainy day craft at the cottage or as a class art project.

Instructions

1. Use acrylic paints to paint directly on the hula hoop. Paint a quarter of the hoop at a time and allow that section to dry first before moving on to the next section.

2. Use colored vinyl tape to create a candy stripe effect on the hoop. Stick the end of the vinyl tape diagonally on the inside of the hoop and carefully wrap the tape around in the same angle all the way along the hoop. Cut the tape once the entire hoop is wrapped and hot glue it in place to help secure it in place.

3. Wrap fabric ribbon around the hula hoop in the candy stripe pattern. Paint a liquid adhesive along the path of the ribbon, 4 inches at a time, and firmly press the ribbon into the adhesive. Finish with the end of the ribbon on the inside of the hoop so that it doesn't show on the outside edge.

Tips Warnings

Use edging scissors on the fabric ribbon to give it zig zag or scalloped edges.

Do not allow very young children to operate a hot glue gun, and only allow older children to operate one under an adult's supervision.
